OUT IN THE COLD
18 January 2010Our nurse based in the South East – Donald MacInnes – went above and beyond the call of duty recently when he found himself at the bottom of an icy hill and unable to get to the top in his car.
Undeterred, and with his thermals and Kendal Mint Cake employed to good effect he set off on foot to negotiate the ascent of the hill and reach the customer waiting for a screening who lived at the top. With no loss of life or limb he successfully reached his destination and undertook the screening.
Donald then discovered to his horror, after returning to his car, that he was unable to move it. With little prospect of a taxi reaching him (to take him either to the railway station or a B & B for the night) he had a problem. Would he have to sleep in his freezing car? That is when the customer came to the rescue by offering Donald a bed for the night - an offer Donald gratefully accepted. When Nigel Jervis (Ops Director) made a courtesy call to Donald later in the evening he was advised by Donald that he was enjoying a nice glass of red wine and watching 'A Question of Sport'!
The customer was sent a nice bottle of Bordeaux as a thank you.
P.S. There are no plans to target a reduction in our overnight accommodation costs by introducing this as standard practice
